One of Bafana Bafana's senior statesmen, MacBeth Sibaya made his debut for for the national team nine years ago in a FIFA World Cup™ qualifier against Malawi. He subsequently went on to be among his country's better performers in their last appearance at a FIFA World Cup finals in 2002.
Sibaya came to prominence while at homeland club Jomo Cosmos, before enjoying successful overseas spells with a number of clubs, including Norwegian side Rosenborg, Hungarian outfit Kerulet and his current employers Rubin Kazan - the reigning Russian champions. Yet despite this extensive experience, the emergence of young midfield talent means Sibaya is having to fight for his South Africa place once more. Should he win that fight, Bafana Bafana will no doubt benefit from the leadership skills of a man who has been to no fewer than three African Cup of Nations tournaments. Underrated in some quarters, he has performed his duties with aplomb and continues to be an unsung hero in the team. He played four matches at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup but missed the semi-final defeat to Brazil through suspension. He also appeared in three FIFA World Cup qualifiers for Germany 2006.
